WISCPHR is a professional organization of physicians, nurses, physical therapists, exercise physiologists, dieticians and respiratory therapists who work with cardiac and pulmonary patients in rehabilitation programs. WISCPHR became an affiliate member of AACVPR in 1985. Our interests lie in therapies and lifestyle behaviors that reduce the risk of heart and pulmonary diseases and improve the functioning and quality of life for patients who have these diseases. Our organization's goals are:
- To provide professional education through sponsorship and/or promotion of educational conferences, scientific meetings, and publications.
- To create a forum for information exchange and problem solving for cardiovascular an pulmonary rehabilitation professionals within the state.
- To encourage, coordinate and/or sponsor research that will enhance the understanding of cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation through a holistic approach.
- To promote and increase public awareness of cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation throughout the state.
- To support the efforts of statewide standardization of care in cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation.
- To support the efforts of AACVPR and other organizations having similar interest to those of this society.

What kinds of professional and patient care projects are WISCPHR and its members involved in?
- WISCPHR developed posters and educational flyers highlighting the warning signs of a heart attack. Each cardiac rehabilitation program in WI received two color posters for use in the program or for community health events and screenings. These were also made available for download from the WISCPHR web site.
- WISCPHR assists programs in gaining certification through the American Association for Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation. Certification through AACVPR confirms the program meets or exceeds high quality standards of care for heart and pulmonary patients.
- WISCPHR offers Digiwalker pedometers for sale to patients, programs and hospitals. Proceeds from the sales of these items are used to fund educational grants, conferences and other professional activities.
- WISCPHR was the first affiliate society in the nation to create a patient-level cardiac rehabilitation outcomes registry. The Wisconsin Cardiac Rehabilitation Outcomes Registry (WiCORE) and the Wisconsin Pulmonary Rehabilitation Outcomes Project (WisPRO)--projects involved in gathering information about programs and patient outcomes-- are generating quality improvement initiatives and knowledge about how our programs are doing as compared to national rehabilitation benchmarks.
- WISCPHR was awarded the Outstanding Affiliate by AACVPR in 2007. Many of its members are board and committee members at the national level.
Each year at our state conference, WISCPHR awards the

WISCPHR assists members and their programs in promoting primary and secondary prevention efforts to reduce the risk of heart, vascular and pulmonary diseases in WI communities:

Program certification through The American Association for Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation ensures high quality program services for patients. Programs that are certified benefit by meeting and staying current with the essential standards outlined by AACVPR, health care payers and national regulatory agencies:
- Wisconsin has one of the highest rates of certification for cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation programs in the nation. Over 50 programs across the state have AACVPR certification, and more programs are being certified each year.
